Simple ideas to innovative buildings: Alok Shetty at TEDxMuscat 2013
Alok’s architecture firm takes simple ideas and combines them with innovative building solutions to bring about radical change in the social infrastructure of a community. From creating rural clinics made of locally available materials, designing aquamarine parks that are a source of fresh water and electricity, or transforming shipping containers into auditoriums, Alok is striving to improve the standard of living in third world and emerging economies.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Designed a full-fledged, multi-specialty hospital at the age of 20.
• Youngest recipient of the Lucille Smyser Award for Design Excellence at Columbia University.
• Launching the Bhumiputra Scholarship and Housing Program this year.
• Official launch of the Black Box Theater Prototype
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

With the “black box” it would be so easy to set up schools and clinics
anywhere in the world. This is just amazing. It would so helpful for after
disaster help.
