Ponds & Stream by Pondguru – Pond building, renovation and maintenance.
A rebuild of two ponds and a large cascade with a long drop waterfall. Since the stream runs over an existing retaining wall I had to ensure that the waterfall sheds the water cleanly with no water escaping over the sides of the spillstone. I cut the spillstone level with a Stihl saw by carefully moving back and forth, side to side to acheive the correct depth of cut.
All parts of the stream were underlaid and lined with all stone and cobbles cemented into position, allowing anyone to walk all over it without ruining the effect or knocking stones into the pond and stream.
The balancing tank contains the pump, an automatic top-up and an overflow. The water enters from the bottom of the wall facing the inside of the pond to prevent the overflow becoming blocked.

All those power tools and you still use a hand saw? You really are one of a
kind. I mean that in a good way.
October 16, 2010 @ 4:34 pm
I am always blunting my chainsaw blade so a hand saw is a cheaper option. I
used to have a much better breaker but I made the mistake of lending it to
a cousin who lost it – £600 worth of ‘lost it’ so now its slow and steady
with the little fella.

@pondguru no problem 🙂

How the heck do you lose a saw?
October 17, 2010 @ 2:46 am
nice job matey, just watched it live from Bangkok airport, off to Chiang my
to film some really big waterfalls. geoff !

It wasn’t a saw. It was a heavy breaker drill which weighed about 25kg. He
left it lying about and someone stole it along with some other stuff.

You like the far east. Somewhere I’ve never been – the only place I would
see myself visiting outside of europe is New Zealand – for a permanent
visit.

Thanks, man.

I find it kinda tragic and amusing – bit of a farce.

Beautiful ponds

What is the purpose of the balancing tank? does it cut off the waterfall if
the pond water get too high?
March 15, 2011 @ 1:25 am
As always the final step has been missed. Should I put the fish or the
water in first??
March 15, 2011 @ 9:27 am
Not sure how to answer that one, man.
August 5, 2011 @ 6:24 am
What a great pond! I would like to have that in my backyard.
February 2, 2012 @ 10:46 am
Just beautiful, how long did that take to make. I dream of something a bit
smaller but I am on myway, the pond is there but I need the waterfall and
stream. I have seen many of them but yours is right on but you should give
some instructions or suggestions. Well done, enjoy it all!

There are multi-part instruction videos on my channel. A two part koi pond
construction, four part fish pond (and cascade construction) and a six part
wildlife pond construction series. Everything you could wish to know will
be in those videos. I will add more as I get time.

It is a small blowtorch like plumbers would use. It melts the surface of
the polyester underlay which then sticks together really well. I explain
that on some of my later videos where I talk through every stage of
building a fish pond or wildlife pond etc. Thanks for watching.

Can you make really big waterfalls?
August 21, 2013 @ 1:48 pm
I Can make them as big as you like ?
August 22, 2013 @ 11:27 am
How about 20 – 30 feet? With a grotto over a hot tub?
June 8, 2014 @ 10:58 pm
Fab construction. Any chance of seeing what it looks like now please. I
built a brook in my garden but have never been able to finalize the fall
into the pond.
