IITM GFRG demo building 2013_720p
IIT Madras unveils the unique ‘GFRG Demonstration Building’ to showcase its Rapid Affordable Mass Housing technology as a promising solution for India’s tremendous housing shortage. The one-of-its-kind ‘GFRG demo building’, was constructed within a month using the glass fiber reinforced gypsum panels which was originally designed for using as walls by Rapid Building systems, Australia. The IIT-M research group extended the application of this product for the entire building system — including floors, roofs staircases, thus significantly reducing the consumption of Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC). The team also collaborated in the indigenous development of an excellent water-proofing material, which is essential for prolonged durability of the GFRG panels, especially in the case of roofs and toilets..
